School Counseling

Mission

The mission of the school counseling program at Arrington Elementary School is to provide equitable access to a data-driven, developmentally appropriate, and culturally sensitive comprehensive school counseling program that inspires all students to maximize their unique potential. The school counselor will provide students with a positive school climate that cultivates acceptance, empathy, and perseverance through school wide activities, classroom instruction, small groups, and individual counseling. In partnership with other educators, parents and guardians, and the community, the school counselor will advocate for a school environment that will address the academic, social-emotional, and college and career development of all students, to ensure lifelong empowerment.

Vision

Arrington Elementary students will be empowered to reach their maximum potential and will gain the necessary skills to become lifelong learners that sustain personal growth and contribute to society with compassion and pride.

Arrington’s school counselors work to help all students develop their full potential through a variety of services.Some of these services include facilitating classroom guidance, providing individual and small group counseling, assisting in conflict resolution, and coordinating intervention and 504 meetings.

We have two counselors: Lakesa Jordan and Lauren Ansley. Counselors are available for parent consultations and can be contacted by email or phone. Our counselors are happy to serve the Arrington community!

What is a Counselor?

Elementary School Counselors foster student learning through the development of skills and attitudes necessary to be successful learners and exemplary citizens through classroom lessons, small group counseling, individual counseling, social lunch bunches, and collaboration with school professionals.

School counselors serve as the student’s advocate and they adhere to the Code of Ethics of the American School Counseling Association. Confidentiality is important to the counseling relationship because it facilitates trust; therefore all information shared will be taken in confidence.

School counselors promote excellence through their work in three program areas:

  • Responsive Services: personal and crisis counseling, small group counseling, 504 and support services
  • Life Skills Curriculum: engaging classroom lessons for every student that promote safety, character education, social and emotional development, and strategies for academic success for every grade level
  • System Support: collaboration with teachers and staff and fostering community relationships
